We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have Shani Akilah joining us here at The Heath Bookshop. Shani will be talking about her short story collection, 'For Such A Time As This'.

Shani will be in conversation with Aarti Kumari.

Shani Akilah is a Black-British writer from South London of Caribbean heritage. She is the co-founder of Nyah Network, a book club for black women, and the Bankra platform that explores the identities of black millennials. She holds a Master’s degree in African Studies from Oxford University

For Such A Time As This: A rich debut short-story collection brings to life the worlds of Black-British friends as they explore situationships and romance, community and independence, and navigate their way through the relationships that make them who they are.

Praise for Shani Akilah:

‘Shani Akilah is a glittering new voice in the literary firmament. With insight and compassion she gets under the skin and inside the messy relationships of millennials in a way that feels vital and fresh.' Bernardine Evaristo, author of Girl, Woman, Other, Winner of the Booker Prize.

'Eloquent, accessible, and full of heart, these interconnected stories draw one into an unforgettable group of young Black-British friends. Funny, thought provoking and deeply moving. An astonishing debut.' Taiye Selasi, author of Ghana Must Go.

See you there,

Catherine & Claire
